Greetings,
As summer quickly approaches and we prepare for our Elder/Youth Conference, we have a few updates to share with you.
First, we'd like to acknowledge our gratitude to the organizers of the
Peak Naming Ceremony that took place this past week.? The peak outside
east of Ashland, formally known as "Squaw Peak," is now officially
Taowhywee Peak, in honor of our Grandma Aggie's family.? Some of us in
R.E.D. were able to be present to witness and offer our
prayers/blessings for the Naming Ceremony.? As some of you may know,
R.E.D. felt apprehensive about our participation in this event some
weeks ago and took a position of neutrality until all the local,
regional tribes were invited to be present also.? Once these
iinvitations were made, we felt we could step up and attend.? It
entailed a lot of work and patience--especially on the part of the land
stewards and the organizers--but we worked TOGETHER to make it happen
and the rewards have been beautiful.? To honor the land and the
ancestors was a blessing for all of us.? To those of you who worked
with us in this endeavor, we thank you from our hearts.
